Nestled in the vibrant heart of Coal Drops Yard, El Pastor King's Cross offers an authentic and vibrant Mexican dining experience that captures the essence of traditional flavours with a contemporary twist. Specializing in mouthwatering Mexican fare, this restaurant is a haven for taco lovers and anyone craving bold, fresh, and deeply satisfying dishes.
From the very first bite, El Pastor enthralls with standout dishes such as their perfectly spiced Tacos Al Pastor, where succulent pork meets layers of pineapple and a rich, smoky salsa morita. The Chicken Tacos deliver a tender, juicy punch, while the Baja Fish Tacos offer a delightful balance of crisp textures and zesty flavours – every mouthful a celebration. Vegetarians aren't left behind either, with options like the Mushroom Tacos and the Guacamole VE with Totopos or Chicharron, which comes alive with creamy, fresh avocado and crunchy chips or chicharron for added texture.
The entrées highlight a range of fresh and creative starters, such as the Seabass Ceviche with its citrusy leche de tigre and crisp cucumber, and the Tuna Tostadas, which marry raw soymarinated yellowfin tuna with chile de árbol and sesame for a sublime, umami-rich experience. The Chicken Tinga Tostadas stand out with smoky chipotle and cumin-marinated chicken topped with fresh lettuce and queso fresco, making for an irresistible bite.
Quesadillas at El Pastor are a revelation in themselves. The Charred Pork Ends quesadilla is an expertly balanced dish featuring al pastor pork, queso, and grilled pineapple, all elevated by bold salsas that add depth and heat. For meat lovers, the Steak Quesadilla impresses with marinated aged rump paired with fresh chilli and avocado, delivering complex layers of flavors in every cheesy, crispy mouthful.
To round off your meal, the dessert options are indulgent yet unique. The Corn Cake combines sweet roasted corn ice cream with rich textures, while the Chocolate Mole Tart thrills with its cinnamon- and chili-spiced dark chocolate and a refreshing orange Chantilly cream. For a lighter finish, the selection of ice creams, including salted caramel and lime sorbet, provides a perfect cooling note.
Beyond the superb food, El Pastor thrives in its warm and lively atmosphere. Guests frequently praise the open-plan layout that artfully balances an airy yet cozy feeling, making it a welcoming spot for everything from casual lunches to vibrant after-work gatherings. The energy is palpable, especially on sunny days when diners seize the outdoor seating for people-watching and soaking up the London scene.

Whether you’re after the fiery kick of a Michelada or craving the creamy freshness of an Avocado Margarita, El Pastor King’s Cross is a vibrant destination for Mexican cuisine that delights all the senses. It’s a place where the heritage of Mexican ingredients meets modern London energy, and every visit promises bold flavours, friendly service, and a memorable dining adventure.
Got myself a great spot in the sun for some great people watching. The tacos (I had the special, with pork belly and black pudding) were top notch, together with a few great cocktails. The staff was very friendly, but the service was messy (forgot drinks, then came to ask for my order twice, then only brought a knife and forgot the rest of the cutlery, then came for a last round to get final food orders, but wasn’t clear on whether they had taken my order).
Had dinner at El Pastor, Coal Drops Yard (King’s Cross) and had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. Special thanks to Alice, who gave us amazing recommendations — she was professional, friendly, and genuinely passionate about her work. Her warm service and attention made our evening even more enjoyable. Thank you, Alice, for the excellent hospitality! Highly recommended.
We visited El Pastor on a lovely evening after wandering around Coal Drops Yard, where a Latin dancing group had set the perfect mood for Mexican food. Despite being quite busy, we were quickly seated in a comfortable spot within the open-plan space. The layout manages to feel airy yet cozy, which isn't easy to pull off. Our server was attentive and promptly brought us beers and tacos when we mentioned we just wanted to nibble and enjoy some drinks. The tacos were excellent. One thing worth noting: while Mexican food is naturally expected to have some heat, the spice levels could be more clearly marked on the menu for those who might be sensitive. The corn cake was a standout for me, with its interesting texture from smashed tortilla chips worked through it. My partner wasn't keen on it, which just shows how subjective food preferences can be! The overall atmosphere was fantastic, perfectly capturing that relaxed yet energetic vibe you want from a Mexican restaurant. My only minor critique would be the beer selection—they stick to standard Mexican bottled options, which are good but a bit more variety would be welcome. This is a great spot for casual dining with friends in one of London's most appealing locations. The combination of quality food, efficient service, and lively atmosphere makes it well worth a visit.
After walking around the beautiful Coal Drops Yard, my friend and I decided to try this Mexican restaurant, which has a lovely ambiance and a great selection on the menu. We had a wonderful experience, as we were greeted right away by the friendly staff. The food is amazing! We ordered the short rib — so flavorful and incredibly tender — and the habanero dip was just perfect. We also tried the Papas al Árbol, prawn tacos, and guacamole with chicharron. Everything was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is quick and attentive. This restaurant is a must-try when you’re in King’s Cross.
Very tasty food, we were served by Alice who was super attentive and very helpful. The food arrived almost as quickly as the drinks and all was delicious. Great atmosphere and a good place for after work drinks and food.
This restaurant was probably the BEST I have been to EVER! Also to make it even better Alice who was our sever made everything more special. We shall definitely be coming back with lots more friends. Furthermore, Alice had great knowledge on the food and helped us with what was what as it was our first time here.
Absolutely sensational. We got the beef brisket, pork with pineapple (x2), soft shell crab and the special giant squid. Everything was 10/10. Best for us was the pork and the soft shell crab … chefs kiss! Frozen margs (we got the El Pastor) are also a must. Honourable mention to our server Larissa, she was amazing. Brought the vibes and was attentive to our orders. Definitely recommend!
We had a great night with amazing food and the best most attentive waitress by the name of Ankush! We had the fish tacos, the special which was potato and cheese tacos and the shiitake mushroom sharing dish which was so good I kept thinking it’s meat! We also have the mushroom tacos which were great!!
